Meetings & Trainings

Parent and family engagement is what we aim for at Annette Winn Elementary. Our staff realizes that a relationship between home and school is vital for students to succeed in school and in life. We believe that all parents can contribute to their children's learning and school success.  Our annual Parent Survey helps us determine the needs of parents and students; and, we collaboratively work with parents to prepare a Parent Involvement Policy. The Parent and Family Engagement Policy includes a variety of activities and services which allow us to be actively involved in helping meet the needs of our students and their families as reflected through the survey.

Our core beliefs are:

  • All children can learn
  • All parents can contribute to their children's learning and assist them with school skills
  • Parent Engagement means parents who are SUPPORTIVE and ENGAGED in their child's life - they encourage their children and are committed to them and their education and ACTIVE - they assist their children educationally in ways that may or may not be visible to others). 

These core beliefs guide us as we work with parents, community and the school to create a quality engagement program for AWES.

Parental Involvement and Family Engagement is key to helping our students learn.  Research has shown that the more families support their children's learning and educational progress, both in quantity and over time, the more their children tend to do well in school and continue their education.  With this in mind, it is our mission to help families, community and the school work together to strengthen families, enhance student learning and development, and create a learning community.

Parents, We Need Your Input!

Parents, your input is needed as we revise our Title I Student-Parent Compacts and our Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policies, for the next school year.  Please review this year's documents and submit your feedback and suggestions.   To view these documents go to the Forms section of our website, click on Forms, scroll down the list until you arrive at the 2017-2018 Parent and Family Engagement Policy & download.  When wishing to give suggestions for Student-Parent Compacts scroll down to the desired grade level and download the 2017-2018 grade-level Compacts.  We would like your input and suggestions when we begin the revision process for the 2017-2018 Compacts and Parent and Family Engagement Policies. Feedback can also be given by emailing suggestions to Ms.Tanyia Clagette, Instructional Lead teacher at Annette Winn. Click on School Staff, select Ms. Clagette's name, click on the email icon and compose a message.    



You may also visit the PRC to speak with Mrs. Clagette in person. 

Our Parent Resource Center is located inside the building in room 17. The PRC hours are Monday- Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.,  due to school duties.  Please call to schedule appointments after 3:00 p.m.    The PRC is also open prior to evening meetings and workshops. 

2017-2018 Educational Meetings and Trainings

Annette Winn Elementary will host the following events to build capacity for strong parental involvement to support a partnership among the school, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement.                            


Annual Title I Parent Meeting- August 16th at 6:00PM and August 18th at 1:00 PM                                                                                                                                                                       This meeting is to inform our families about Title I and the school's status.                                                                                                                                    

Parent Advisory Council Meeting- Wednesday, August 23st at 1:00 PM                                                                                                                            

 The purpose of this PAC meeting will be to discuss the grade level Compacts and revise if needed. We will meet to discuss effective parent involvement for the year and ideas of how to encourage more participation.                                                                                                            

Grandparent's Day Celebrations- Week of September 11th-15th- School Book Fair will be held this week.                                                                                                                                                                                                    Our visitors will have the opportunity to visit the book fair, read with the students, hear special writings from their grandchildren, and eat lunch with them as well.                                                                                                                                                                                                         APTT (Academic Parent Teacher Teams) Meeting 1- September 11th   3rd- 5th and 13th  K-2nd at 6:00PM                                                                                                                                                                                      K-5 will meet with the parents from their homeroom teachers to discuss data based results on a foundational skill they have chosen. They will then discuss strategies, create activities to work with their children at home, and discuss goals for the next meeting.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Homework Help -Wednesday, September 20th at 10:00AM                                                                                                                                                                                     Parents will learn strategies, they can use at home, to help their children with Homework!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Eureka Math Night - Wednesday, October 18th at 6:00PM                                                                                                                                                                             Parents will have the opportunity to learn about the school-wide math program and  create math activities that can be used at home to help with their child's progress.                                                                                                                                                                                              Fall Festival TBD                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Parent Engagement Month -November                                                                                                                                                                     Parents will do the morning announcements, read to the students, create activities, and eat lunch with the students.                                                                                                                                                                   Literacy Night and Writing Expo - Wednesday, November 15th throughout the day- times will be assigned to grade levels Parents will tour the writing of students and celebrate the progress they have made.                                                                                                                                        

Understanding Testing and How Parents Can Help at Home - Wednesday, December 6th at 6:00 PM & Friday, December 8th at 10:00 AM - Parents will gain an understanding of the expectations of the different types of assessments given throughout the year. They will walk away with an understanding as to how to help at home.                                                                                                                                                            

Parent Advisory Council Meeting- Thursday, January 19, 2018 at 10:00AM           

The purpose of this PAC meeting will be to discuss any information pertinent to the school and its success.                                                                                                                                                                                           

APTT (Academic Parent Teacher Teams) Meeting 2 - January 22rd K-2 & 23rd  3-5th at 6:00 PM                                                                                                      

K-5 will meet with the parents from their homeroom teachers to discuss data based results on a foundational skill they have chosen. They will then discuss strategies, create activities to work with their children at home, and discuss goals for the next meeting.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    K-5 STEM Night TBD                                                                                                 

Parents will have the opportunity to do hands-on activities in the classrooms as well as view science projects created by our students.  Come and have a great time!

They will then discuss strategies, create activities to work with their children at home, and discuss goals for the summer.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Parent Advisory Council Meeting- Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 6:00PM                                                                                                         The purpose of this PAC meeting will be to plan for the upcoming school year by examining parent survey results.                                                                                                                                                                                               Transition Activities - April/May 2018   Kindergarten Information meetings and Pre-K Tours will take place for the parents of incoming kindergarten students.  We will also be providing parents & their 5th grade students with information as to the school system's Middle School Orientation Meetings.
